How to Overclock CPU

When you want to learn how to overclock CPU you must have some kind of goal in mind. You can't just tune up the computer cpu to whatever level you want and expect it to work 100% correctly. I am not going to take you through every step of the process for every scenario you may go through in this webpage, but I will give you the general information you will need to get started.

When you are overclocking a computer cpu you will be changing 2 things within the computer software. These two things are the Front Side Bus (FSB) and the Multiplier. The FSB connects to computer ram memory and other computer parts. If you multiply the FSB by the computer processors multiplier you get the core clock speed of your computer cpu.

How to overclock cpu can happen in two ways. You can increase the FSB or increase the multiplier. Increasing the FSB can be very easy. You should be able to do it through the BIOS on your computer motherboard. Older pc boards would use jumper cables, which I have lots of experience with. Either way it is a quick change to increase FSB up to the max specifications that are possible for it. I can say that it is not always highly recommended.

If you try to change the multiplier you may find more problems than you are willing to deal with. It is standard now to have a locked multiplier on a computer CPU, but their are always ways around it. AMD has made this very easy and changing an Intel CPU is not as hard as it used to be. You can find ways to do this if you search online, but I will not go into it because it varies for each type of computer processor.

If you happen to run into a problem with stability once you start it back up you will probably be very sad because you think your computer CPU can't handle the load. This situation is only partly true. If you raise the (VCore) or voltage of the computer processor it will get more power and will increase stability of the increased performance your overclocking is asking for. Unfortunately, increased voltage creates increased heat!

Now we get into the last part of the how to overclock cpu tutorial. Computer air cooling has improved over the years and people have made great computer cases and air flow patterns to make your computer cool quicker, but overclockers know that they can get more out of their machines if they use another cpu cooler source. I suggest you look into computer water cooling if you really want to succeed at overclocking and get great results from your efforts.
