The Turtle Beach Riviera 5.1 review shows this to be a great value, but not the best sound card all around if that is what you are looking for. If you want above grade quality for basic needs and want to save some cash this is your option. It has 5.1 surround sound technology, which should be more than enough for your needs.
This is one of the pc sound cards that provide you with 24 bit technology, but it lacks on the sample rate, which brings its quality down significantly. I personally would invest a little bit more money into a proper pci sound card if I really needed the sound to be good for media or gaming. However, if that is not your goal then just about anything above standard grade should be more than fine. That is why I recommended this computer sound card. I install sound cards and sometimes it can be a little tricky because of its size and the software, but this was is very easy and it outperforms any of the standard pc sound cards around.
