The need of desktop computer cases is something you just can't
do without. Nobody wants their computer sitting on a desk with all the computer parts unprotected
from the environment, which could be dust and liquids to small children! I will show you the simple
uses of a computer case and a few of the cool things you can do with them.
Desktop Computer cases range in all types of a shapes and sizes. You can find many computer enclosures that
are just basic with no thrills all the way up to cold cathode lights and silent fans everywhere. The
most important thing is size. If you can't fit your computer components inside then why did you
buy that size computer case?
Different Parts of Desktop Computer Cases
Computer enclosures do not have many parts of them because they are just capsules to hold computer
parts. Of course this is pretty obvious, but the shape and architecture of computer enclosures can play a
key factor in what type of computer parts you can use within it. I will list these unique sectios of the
aluminum case below.
Fan Slots
Hard Drive Enclosure
Power Supply Enclosure
Computer Motherboard Mounting Bracket
USB Ports
Motherboard Monitor
Fan Slots
The fan slots seem to be one of the main things people tend to look at other than the overall size of
computer enclosures. You will find that some computer parts aren't all in standard sizes especially when
they have to give more power to the system. This needs more cool and 120mm silent fans are the
big deal when it comes to air cooling. You want to make sure they are in the right places to move air
efficiently through the system.
On the other hand, you may be building a LAN party computer or a laptop where you might want air
cooling. The size of the fan and its RPM will be very important to you. The noise level is always
important no matter what the size. Nobody likes an airplane in their room!
Hard Drive Enclosure
The hard drive enclosure for a desktop computer case is 3.5 inches, but a laptop hard drive enclosure
is only 2.5. Both either use screws to insert them, Zero Insertion Force (ZIF) or some kind of bracket
and rails that allow it to easy be inserted and pulled out easily. The brackets and rails are the most
popular for desktop computers. I use those myself and they are great for making exchanges.
Power Supply Enclosure
Aluminum cases are built to hold a standard size power supply but the depth is not part of the
equation. You may find that some very strong power supplies will reach far back into your desktop computer
cases and get in the way of the Computer RAM Memory
, DVD Burners and the
Computer CPu. This will cause all sorts of
space and heat problems for you if these parts get to close. This is why it is important to know what
size computer enclosure you need.
Computer Motherboard Mounting Bracket
The mounting bracket is exactly what it sounds like. It is a simple screw that goes into the computer
motherboard to clamp it to the computer case. You must do this with at least one metal screw so it is
grounded to the computer enclosure. Otherwise, the computer will not start. These will come in the
sizes ATX and Micro-ATX. It is just a sizing chart for
computer motherboards.
USB Ports
Some computer enclsures may have extra USB ports that are built into the computer enclosure at the front,
back or top of the aluminum case. I have been seeing a growing amount of the ones on the top along
with the extra audio jacks with a nice place to hold your loose change. These come with special cables
that plug into the computer motherboards USB extension slots that I showed you on the computer
motherboards section of parts of a computer.
Motherboard Monitor
If you are a really techie person you will have a motherboard monitor and maybe a fan monitor
inserted into one of the 3.5 inch drive bays so you can monitor your system more effectively. I actually
love these little gizmos when I did a lot of overclocking back in the day. That is something that I will
be getting back into once I do a lot of research and get the latest and greatest things to overclock. I
hope to have a nice document for you to increase your skills or start you off overclocking the right
way. I am sure you don't want to blow up your expensive computer system.
